Ancient Echoes Program
~ancestral wisdom traditions~
WED - FEB 8, 2012
6:30 PM
‘Ancient Echoes’ facilitators Betsy Rosenberg and Barbara O’Neil will be presenting a learning session about the Jewish holiday of Tu BeShevat - the New Year of the Trees - and the Celtic Imbolc, one of the four cross-quarter days referred to in Irish mythology and associated with Brighid’s feast.
For Tu BeShevat, Betsy (owner of After Midnight Creations of Seymour) will lead the group through a modern version of a ceremonial “ordered meal”, a Seder. As the sap begins to flow and trees and flowers begin their ‘awakening’ process, we will celebrate with a light meal, enjoying the fruits of the vines and the trees, in a specific pattern.
We will also be “weaving in” some of the foods traditionally associated with St. Brigid’s Day, at the beginning and at the end of the Seder. Besides being celebrated at about the same time of year, both of these holidays start to direct our focus away from the cold and darkness of Winter, to instead look toward the coming of Spring.
Following our ‘meal’, we will weave individual “St. Brigid’s crosses” followed by a special presentation with a Celtic theme led by Barbara O’Neil, the Center’s founder.
This interactive program will allow participants to reflect on both ancient and modern ways we can appreciate the wonders of Nature’s cycles.
