Film: Rachel Getting Married
Sponsored by: Treasures from the Yale Film Archive
We pay tribute to director Jonathan Demme with a screening of his 2008 drama RACHEL GETTING MARRIED. Anne Hathaway received her first Academy Award nomination for her leading role as a troubled young woman released from rehab to attend her sister’s Connecticut wedding. A.O. Scott praised the film for “an undeniable and authentic vitality, an exuberance of spirit, that feels welcome and rare,” while David Edelstein wrote, “I’ve never seen a movie with this mixture of fullness and desolation. RACHEL GETTING MARRIED is a masterpiece.” Rosemarie DeWitt, Bill Irwin, Debra Winger, Tunde Adebimpe, and Anna Deavere Smith co-star. 35mm print from the Yale Film Archive.
A presentation of the Yale Film Study Center and Films at the Whitney with support from Paul L. Joskow, ’70 M.Phil., ’72 Ph.D.
