Lockwood-Mathews Mansion receives Education Grant

“We are very grateful to Fairfield County’s Community Foundation,” said Patsy Brescia, Chairman of the Board of the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum. “The Foundation’s support continues to be truly impactful as we engage more and more students from our public schools with a multi-faceted Education Program that enriches their curriculum and makes learning history stimulating and consequential in their lives and careers.”

Learning about the past will help students build a better future. The Education Program develops educational strategies in collaboration with principals and teachers and engages youth in the exploration of this National Historic Landmark’s in a dynamic and creative way. LMMM offers a variety of programs with skill-building techniques that include: The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum/ Ernest Hemingway/Young Writers’ Competition for third and eighth graders; a successful internship program for high school students; and educational tours, in-class, with costumed educators and a PowerPoint presentation followed by a museum visit where students are offered an in-depth and interactive discovery of American history and the Mansion’s national legacy.

LMMM Education Committee Chair Haroldo Williams said, “This very generous grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation provides an opportunity to expand our program to schools beyond Norwalk.”
