Painting on Silk with Water Soluble Gutta Resist and Textile Paints

Sponsored by: Creative Arts Workshop

Learn the basics of the ancient art of Serti painting on silk. Using a water-soluble resist, students will outline a predetermined design on a piece of stretched silk then they will use thin textile paints to fill in the areas with color. If you already love watercolor painting, you’ll love this style of painting on silk. Serti technique can be used for making silk scarves, pillows, yardage and many other decorative items. Cheryl Rezendes is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA where she trained as a painter and collage artist. She now works almost exclusively in fiber, creating mixed media art quilts and a wonderful collection of fine wearable art. Her work is being exhibited and sold in galleries and shops throughout the country. All materials supplied. No experience necessary.
