Stockings for Wounded Soldiers Drive

Sponsored by: SoHu Neighborhood Association

SoHu’s third annual Stockings for Soldiers drive is currently accepting donations to send stuffed stockings to wounded being treated at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.  Last year, 125 stockings were mailed to troops in Afghanistan.

SoHu is an acronym for South of Humphrey and the block watch organization covers Pearl, Clark and Pleasant streets, with a spillover onto State and Orange streets, and throughout the greater East Rock neighborhood.

Lisa Siedlarz is working with the Warrior Family Support Center at Fort Sam Houston to deliver the stockings next month.  Contributions will be collected until Dec. 9 at Siedlarz’s home at 53 Pearl St.

For more information or to make arrangements to drop off goods, call 203-623-0857 or email at   lisa@sohunewhaven.org .

Donors may give money, individual items or stuffed stockings. If a stocking is for a female, then Sohu is asking that it be labeled as such.

Appropriate toiletries and personal care items for donation are Chapstick/lip balm, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shaving cream, soap, body wash, toothpaste, tooth brushes, mouthwash, deodorant, hair brushes, tweezers, nail polish and razors with at least three blades.

Gift cards to Target or Walmart are acceptable, as well as disposable cameras, pens, pencils, stationary, music, DVDs, crossword and other puzzle books, decks of cards, paperback books, magazines, hand-held games and board games.

Individually wrapped snacks, microwavable popcorn, boxed teas and baked goods are preferred food items.

Children are welcome to create hand-made greeting cards but they cannot be in sealed envelopes.
