The Body Project

Sponsored by: Designing Their Future

100 years ago a woman’s beauty was focused on good deeds and having a pure heart. Fast forwarding to today, American women have more social choices and personal freedom than ever before. However, 53% of today’s girls are dissatisfied with their bodies. By the age of thirteen girls begin a pattern of weight loss obsession and dieting as early as eight or nine. How a girl feels about herself and her body can be complicated. There are many factors that can contribute to unhealthy body image, one beginning with puberty to then later be followed by school, friendships, relationships, to family issues. The growing pains are a balancing act which can lead our teens to lose themselves along the way. So what can we do to change it? What can we do to lessen the pressure of our saturated society with the unrealistic expectations about beauty and weight? How do break through? The breakthrough begins by educating, empowering, and inspiring our girls. By
giving them the space to redefine their confidence and end body shaming. Together girls and women can conquer self-doubt, set healthy boundaries, accept & respect their bodies.
