Artist’s Choice, Art Exhibition

Sponsored by: Kehler Liddell Gallery

Artist’s Choice is a unique exhibition of member artists work paired with the work of guest artists accompanied by a written statement.  Each artist in the show is accomplished.  There is a broad spectrum of work including: painting, sculpture, photography and drawing or paint, wood, stone, metal, paper, ink found objects and more.  Broad spectrums of work and member/guest shows are not unusual. Artist’s Choice is all this and more. It is the personal invitation from one artist to another, the particular pairings, the binding of one artist to another, which leaves the viewer wondering what stirred within the host artist to extend this invitation. The answers are provided by each of the twenty-two Kehler Liddell member artists in highly personal statements, which reveal inspiration and admiration among creative professionals.  It is the statements and moves the exhibition out of the ordinary.

Audubon Arts on the Edge

Sponsored by: Arts Council of Greater New Haven

On Saturday, June 2nd, from 12-5pm, families with children of all ages are invited to attend the 17th annual Audubon Arts on the Edge, an afternoon full of free, family-oriented music and dance performances, interactive arts-and-crafts activities, fun educational programs, and giveaways. The event will take place in the Audubon Arts & Retail District, on the block of Audubon Street between Whitney Avenue and Orange Street, rain or shine.

Among some of the entertainment this year will be Neighborhood Music School’s Afro-Caribbean World Beat and Neighborhood DoSo Band, ACES ECA’s Latin Jazz Ensemble, Vocal Ensemble and Site Specific First Year Dances, Pantochino Children’s Theater, Thelma Ladeira with Ginga Brasileira Dance Company performing Afro-Brazilian dances, and Music Haven’s All Hands on Bow orchestra.

As always, Audubon Street itself will become a canvas, on which event-goers can contribute to an ever-evolving sidewalk chalk mural. A huge painting wall and a pottery wheel will also be set up to encourage artistic expression. In addition, a storytelling area, dress up corner, and face painting station will be featured for children, as well as music making at an instrument petting zoo.
