Viscosity Monotype: a Painterly Printmaking Process

Sponsored by: Creative Arts Workshop

Roll up your sleeves and discover the unique monotype process called Viscosity Printing. By its very nature, this technique allows for the creation of both painterly and abstract imagery. Explore ink viscosity by rolling thick, tacky inks over thin, oily ones to reveal a unique resist that works simply because of the viscosity (weight) of the inks. Using non-toxic, Faust water based inks, you will learn proper ink mixing, larger roller technique, and print registration. Artists will generate a small suite of viscosity monotypes–all in a great and surprising day in the print shop. Participants to bring paper, brushes, plexiglass in size of their choice and small rollers; all other materials included.
