Details | The Seymour Library again hosts the historian John Cilio. Mr. Cilio will detail in a free program the life and times of the local historian John Warner Barber. Mr. Barber was an early historian and engraver who worked before photography was invented. Mr. Barber was one of Connecticut’s early historians and illustrated over 60 books and would produce hundred of engravings chronicling American towns and scences. John Warner Barber, born in Windsor and living most of his life in New Haven, had his illutrations grace some of the most successful books published during the 1800’s. His popular 1837 book “Connecticut Historical Collections” highlights the state’s history with each town recieving stories and facts gleaned from local historians of the time, with most entries featuring detailed accurate town drawings. Join John CIlio as he delves into the life and works of John Warner Barber, highligting his early life, career milestones, publications and lasting impact on American culture and history.
