The Elm City Girls’ Choir is excited to announce that it will host an “A Cappellooza” extravaganza concert on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:30pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 768 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. The concert will feature performances by Yale University’s Something Extra and the Vassar Devils from Vassar College. The concert will also feature performances by several other contemporary singing groups from throughout the Northeast, including the United Girls’ Choir, UConn Rubyfruit, UConn Chordials, UConn’s Conn Men, CCSU TGFI, and Hopkins’ Triple Trio. Repertoire will include contemporary pop songs and a cappella favorites!
“A Cappellooza” is a benefit concert that will serve as an important fundraiser for the Sisters in Song Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support for girls and young women who would otherwise be unable to afford high-quality musical training (more information about the Scholarship Fund can be found at https://saecula.org/scholarships). Adult Tickets: Suggested donation of $18 in advance or $20 at the door
Student/Senior Tickets: Suggested donation of $12 in advance or $15 at the door

Founded in 1977, Something Extra is Yale University’s premier all-female a cappella group that performs a varied repertoire of pop, jazz, indie rock, folk songs, spirituals, and traditional Yale songs. The group has toured throughout North America, Europe, and the Caribbean, and has performed at prestigious venues such as the White House, US embassies, and on the set of “Jeopardy!”.
The Vassar Devils were founded in 1987 and are a co-ed a cappella group from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. The group has toured extensively throughout the United States and has received numerous awards for their arrangements and performances. The Devils won first place at the 2016 BOSS (Boston Sings) a cappella festival for best arrangement, best spoken word, and most nuanced performance. The group also won first place at the 2015 ICCA (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) Semifinals and received two Outstanding Arrangement Awards and two Outstanding Choreography Awards. Their repertoire includes pop hits, indie ballads, classic rock, jazz, and original student compositions.
The nationally-renowned Elm City Girls’ Choir is New England’s premier girls’ choral ensemble, and its members represent over 250 schools and 50 towns throughout Connecticut. Highlights of the past 25 years include appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney World, concert tours to 16 states and five foreign countries (including China, Italy and England), professional CD recording with the Yale Whiffenpoofs, Yale Schola Cantorum, New Haven Symphony Orchestra and Augusta Reed Thomas, and a performance with Diana Ross at the finals of the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. The choir has collaborated with ensembles including the New York Virtuoso Singers, Yale Schola Cantorum, Yale Glee Club and Camerata, Trinity Choir of Men and Boys, American Boychoir, CONCORA, New York City Ballet, Boston Philharmonic, New Haven Symphony, and Moscow State Orchestra. ECGC is the flagship ensemble of the United Girls’ Choir network, a program which offers musical training and performance opportunities to over 550 talented singers, ages 6-18, in 32 local choirs throughout Connecticut.
