Join Wilbur the Pig, Charlotte the Spider, Templeton the Rat and all the other barn animals as they, and little Fern Arable, try to save Wilbur from becoming Sunday dinner for the Zuckerman family!
On the weekend of Saturday, October 6th at 11:00am and 2:00pm and Sunday, October 7th, at 2:00pm, VALLEY SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a Shelton-based nonprofit professional theater company, will present a live action dramatic production of the beloved E.B. White children’s story of friendship and growing up, “Charlotte’s Web.”
The book, first published in 1952, follows the life of Wilbur the Pig, the “runt of his litter”; Fern Arable, the little girl who makes him her pet, and the efforts of Charlotte the Spider and other residents of the Barn to save Wilbur from his seemingly inevitable fate. What ensues is a delightful and meaningful tale of adventure, wonder and friendship.
Much of the story’s action takes place in a barn on the fictional “Zuckerman’s Farm,” so to capture the magic of the story, VSF is partnering with one of Connecticut’s best-known farms, the MASSARO COMMUNITY FARM in Woodbridge, to present their production.
In addition to the live performance, the Farm will conduct seasonal children’s activities such as pumpkin picking and scarecrow stuffing for the little ones.
Funds raised by the event will be used to purchase fresh produce to be donated to local food pantries and families in need.
Young children will be delighted by the friendly and comic animal characters in the story and older children and adults will be moved by the subtle lessons it teaches. And knowing that the funds collected will be donated to the less fortunate will support those lessons of selflessness, generosity and friendship.
Admission to the event is $10 for Adults, $5 for Seniors and Children. Children under the age of 5 are admitted FREE. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased in advance by credit card through the Valley Shakespeare Festival website, www.vsfestival.org or by calling VSF at 203-513-9446.
