Heat assistance begins August 1, 2018 at CAANH
Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH), 419 Whalley Avenue in New Haven, begins their new energy season August 1, 2018, helping individuals in New Haven, East Haven, West Haven, North Haven and Hamden obtain assistance for their primary heat source. Heat sources include fuel oil, electric and gas, wood, propane and coal. The new energy assistance season goes from August 1, 2018 until May 1, 2019.
Appointments may be scheduled starting July 25, 2018 by calling the automated phone system at 203-285-8018.
To apply applicants must bring the following information for ALL household members to their appointment.
• Social Security numbers and birth dates for every household member
• Gas and UI bill - most current
• Proof of all sources of income for the last four weeks for all household members 18 and over, (earnings, Social Security, SSI, child support, unemployment, pensions, etc.)
• Bank statements – most current
Clients heating with gas are eligible to be signed up for the Gas Co’s Matching Payment Plan (MPP) at CAANH during their energy appointment. Clients currently receiving the MPP need to apply for energy assistance through CAANH yearly, to remain on the MPP program.
There are 10 intake sites throughout New Haven, West Haven, North Haven, East Haven and Hamden where clients can apply for energy. Those sites forward the applications to Community Action Agency at 419 Whalley Avenue for processing.
