Smiles of a Summer Night / Wild Strawberries
Sponsored by: Yale Film Study Center
Bergman looks back at bygone summers in the final two films in “Through Bergman’s Lens: Ingmar Bergman Centenary Film Series.” Bosley Crowther asked of SMILES OF A SUMMER NIGHT, “Who would have thought that august Sweden would be sending us a film comedy as witty and cheerfully candid about the complexities of love as any recent French essay on l’amour?” Our closing film, WILD STRAWBERIES, was called by Geoff Andrew “one of Bergman’s warmest, and therefore finest films.” Introduction by Professor John MacKay. 35mm prints from the Yale Film Archive.
7pm SMILES OF A SUMMER NIGHT (1955, 108 mins)
