Four Chaplains Program by Local Veterans

Sponsored by: Seymour American Legion Post 10

Inspiring Four Chaplains Program – Shelton

First Baptist Church of Shelton, CT – Feb. 3, 2019 – Members of local communities are warmly welcome at a beautiful afternoon program where audience members will have an opportunity to learn about and honor the memory and contributions of four World War II chaplains. Together on Feb. 3, 1943, these four men of God – Methodist, Jewish, Catholic, and Dutch-Reformed – worked selflessly together to share the love of God, sacrificing their own lives to help save troops and civilians aboard the sinking ship SS Dorchester.

“It will be a moving and memorable program, with sound, readings, and music,” says veteran Mike Kearney of Seymour. “This is an especially memorable year,” Mike adds, “because 2019 is the 100th anniversary of the American Legion.” Participating in the program and taking the parts of the Four Chaplains will be veterans from Seymour’s American Legion Post 10. Also participating will be Rev. Russell Lesiw of Seymour, who for 20 years has participated in Four Chaplains programs at locations around the Valley, and Rev. Ken Smith, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Shelton.

Members of local communities who enjoy singing are invited to arrive at 1 p.m. and rehearse with the program choir, which will be led by Pat Lesiw, a former RN and a familiar face among many choral singers in the Valley.
The event will be followed by a free reception. Parking is available onsite. There is also an elevator for visitors using wheelchairs.
