Details | The Cheshire Art League is hosting guest artist Patty Meglia for a demonstration of plein air painting. If you have ever wondered about how to go about starting and working en plein air, this demo will be a crash course into the world of painting on location. Patty will demonstrate how she painted the iconic Guilford landmark, the Grass Island Shack, in oils at the site in Guilford. Built in 1930, it was restored twice after decades of neglect and two hurricanes to become one of the most photographed and painted scenes of Connecticut. During this one-hour demonstration, Patty will explain canvas prep, drawing, values, color mixing, texture, and edges. Patty Meglio is a native Connecticut artist and writer. She paints with oils and watercolors from life, and often paints en plein air at different locations throughout New England. Patty’s work is modern impressionist style, usually depicting country landscapes, seascapes, and still life. Patty instructs Drawing and Oil Painting at Hamden and Wallingford Adult Education, Guilford Art Center, and Artsplace as well as providing private instruction. She loves to share her knowledge about art and guide her students as they develop their creations. During the COVID pandemic, Patty started writing a free weekly newsletter with articles on painting and drawing instruction and art history for more than two hundred of her friends and former students as a way to inspire and communicate. Her articles can be found on her blog, Pen ‘n Paint on Art and Writing. Patty has exhibited in numerous venues throughout the state of Connecticut and New Hampshire. Her work is held in private collections throughout the country. She is on the Hamden Art League Board of Directors and a member of the Madison Art Society.
