Details | Join the Green Wave coming to New Haven’s Green What: Reproductive Justice Teach-InWhen: 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24Where: The New Haven Green, corner of Church and Elm Who: The Connecticut Reproductive Justice Coalition, made up of members of organizations from across the state — Black and Brown United in Action, Unidad Latina en Accion, Workers Voice CT, New Haven Pride Center, White Coats for Black Lives, Women Against Mass Incarceration, CT DSA, Hamden Action Now, CT Climate Crisis Mobilization, Wesleyan Doula Project, Nosotras and more — who saw the need to take action. Why: Although Connecticut has codified abortion rights for its residents, we know that more can be done to bring about reproductive justice — such as mutual aid to help families with children, educating young people and adults about sexual health and contraception, ensuring residents have the resources they need to raise children with dignity, and supporting abortion funds to help people get abortion care in Connecticut. The teach-in will give voice to people around Connecticut and New England who have been working for justice for all people who can get pregnant. Join us in learning more about how the struggle for reproductive rights is linked to the fight for justice for many marginalized people, including disabled people, immigrants, working-class people, and Black, Brown and indigenous people. On the agenda for discussion are:the Green Wave in Latin America, in which citizens won their reproductive rights in Colombia, Mexico and Argentina;the ties among slavery, eugenics and reproductive justice;how attacks on reproductive rights parallel attacks on LGBTQIA+ rights;the need for a mass movement led by working-class women and queer folks;fake health clinics and how you can spot them;criminalizing pregnancy — from police brutality to incarceration and how increased criminalization will impact oppressed communities;the connection between housing justice and reproductive justice;how restricted access and opportunities to exercise choice affect incarcerated people;how you can exercise your voice and help create change by impacting who makes decisions and what legislation looks like.We will share snacks, basic essential health needs items, and fun activities for children.
