NHdocs presents THE OYSTERING LIFE & BEECH LEAF DISEASE IN CONNECTICUT

Sat Oct 15 , 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Hosted by NHdocs
Details The Oystering Life:
This is the story of the past, present, and future of oystering along the Connecticut coast, which is heaven for oysters, for oyster lovers, and for the people who harvest the bivalves from the sea. The film takes the viewer back in history to when oysters were essential to the survival of Native Americans. It explores the oyster boom in the 19th century, when Connecticut became one of the leading producers in the world; the collapse, when overfishing and pollution nearly destroyed the industry; and today’s rebound, where our centuries-old commercial beds are thriving once again. You will meet a wonderful cast of characters, from the grizzled boat skipper to the young female oyster hatchery manager to the last boatwright on the East Coast who still restores wooden oyster boats. A new era is underway — one where, potentially, industry and nature will live in harmony.

Beech Leaf Disease in Connecticut:
Beech leaf disease has been rapidly progressing across Connecticut, infecting millions of beech trees. K&J Treeservice decided to put together a team of arborists, scientists, and content creators to create a mini documentary explaining the symptoms, lifecycle, potential treatments, and predicted outlook for Connecticut Beech Trees in the coming years.
