Hamden Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert - The Sky's the Limit

Fri Nov 18 , 7:30 – 9 pm

Hosted by Hamden Symphony Orchestra
Details Hamden Symphony Orchestra is excited to begin its 61st season of music with its Fall concert, ““The Sky’s the Limit””, on Friday November 18th at 7:30 PM at Memorial Town Hall, the Orchestra’s home in the center of Hamden. The Orchestra is proud to perform this concert in loving memory of Janice (Jan) Jekel, who played Bassoon with Hamden Symphony for nearly four decades, from 1969 to 2008. As part of this tribute, Caesar Storlazzi, a longtime friend of Ms. Jekel, will perform the Adagio movement from the Oboe Concerto in D Minor, by Alessandro Marcello.

The ambitious program planned reflects the hard work and dedication of the more than 70 musicians, of many professions and backgrounds, that make up Hamden Symphony Orchestra, and who all give their time and talent every week to make music together. This concert will feature pianist Jeehyun Rachel Kim, who the Orchestra will accompany in Rhapsody in Blue by the famed twentieth-century American composer, George Gershwin.

Opening this performance, Bolero by Maurice Ravel will feature the musicians of the Orchestra in a wide array of instrumental colors from the Piccolo and Soprano Saxophone to the Oboe d’amore and Celeste. The powerful Fourth Symphony of romantic-era composer Robert Schumann will conclude the performance.

No tickets are required in advance. A $15 Suggested Donation ($10 Students/Seniors) will be accepted at the door. For more information visit www.hamdensymphony.org or call 203 – 433-4207.
