Civic Innovation & Engagement: Rising to the Challenges to our Democracy

Sat Mar 25 , 11:45 am – 4:30 pm

Hosted by Everyday Democracy Inc.
Details Join us at the 2023 CT Civic Ambassadors Summit on Saturday, March 25 at 11:45 a.m. at Chrysalis Center, 255 Homestead Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut! This event is FREE but you must register to attend! Registration is now open, but we have capacity for 95 participants only! Registration deadline: Monday, March 20 at 12 noon. To learn more and register, go to the link below. At the Summit, we will have an outstanding Summit keynote speaker – Mr. Matt Leighninger, Head of Democratic Innovation at the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC) – who will address these important questions and topics: In the last 25 years, we’ve experienced two waves of civic innovation: the first introduced processes for dialogue and deliberation, many of them focused on issues of race, and the second featured new technologies for gathering, ranking, and aggregating ideas. What have we learned from this work? How has it advanced efforts to mobilize voters, protect voting rights, and make voting more accessible? What can we learn from how democracy is evolving in other countries? What do we need, and what can we expect, from the next wave of civic innovation to bring about a more inclusive, authentic multi-racial democracy?

We will also have a powerhouse panel of voting rights advocacy group activists who will talk about the important legislative measures currently being considered at the CT General Assembly this year — from Connecticut’s early voting program (a first of its kind), to the CT Voting Rights Act, to no-excuse absentee voting, to Ranked Choice Voting (a voting innovation for Connecticut).
