Details Valley Community Foundation Support for the Oxford Historical Society.

The Oxford Historical Society announces the Valley Community Foundation will be the sponsor of Dr. Lucianne Lavin’s book talk on Saturday at 2 p.m. The book, Dutch and Indigenous Communities in Seventeenth-Century Northeastern North America (SUNY Press, 2021), is an edited volume rated by BookAuthority as one of the 16 Best New Archaeology eBooks to Read in 2021.” Dr. Lavin received a Certificate of Award for Women in American History from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The program will be held in the handicap-accessible Great Hill United Methodist Church sanctuary, followed by refreshments and discussion in the fellowship hall. Admission to the event will be $5.00.

The church is located 225 Great Hill Road, Seymour, at the intersection of Routes 334 and 188 at the Rotary. More information will be available by calling town historian Dorothy A. DeBisschop at 203 – 910-4574.

DeBisschop said, The Historical Society is indebted to the Valley Community Foundation for their support over the years. The Foundation was critical to the preservation of the Society’s headquarters, with grants to help move, preserve and prepare the Colonial Twitchell-Rowland Homestead. More recently the Foundation’s support was critical and enabled the Society to move and preserve Mr. Munn’s 1850’s one-room schoolhouse. In addition the Foundations’ Annual spring Great Give has been provided the Society the opportunity to connect with members and donors in our annual fund-raising. The Foundation’s work is greatly appreciated, not only for the support of the Society, but for the foundation’s work to improve the quality of life in the Valley Communities.”
