Details | Hamden Symphony Orchestra will begin its 62nd season with its Fall Concert, “Dance On”, Friday November 17th at 7:30 PM at Hamden Memorial Town Hall, the Orchestra’s home for the past decade in the center of Hamden. The Orchestra is thrilled to welcome acclaimed violinist Grace Park, winner of the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Competition, who will perform the Violin Concerto in E minor of Felix Mendelssohn. One of the largest ensembles in the history of the Orchestra, the over eighty volunteer musicians that give their time and talents each week to play music together have been working on a fun and varied program inspired by dance and movement; the Danzon No. 2, by contemporary Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, has become widely popular in recent years for its lush melodies and percussive rhythms. Ballroom dancers Lilliana Guistinello and Andrii Drobitko will accompany the Orchestra for a portion of this piece. Claude Debussy’s romantic and impressionistic ballade, Claire de Lune, originally written for piano and orchestrated by Paul Sterrett, will provide the backdrop for ballet dancer Catherine Grady. Rounding out this unique program will be the spirited Overture to Candide of the renowned American composer, conductor and educator, Leonard Bernstein. No tickets are required in advance. A $15 Suggested Donation ($10 Students/Seniors) will be accepted at the door. For more information visit www.hamdensymphony.org or call 203 – 691-5178. |
