Details | Omola Studio is thrilled to announce the second iteration of APRiL (Artists Prospering Really is Limitless): a pop-up group exhibition titled Observe, featuring the works of Kulimushi Barongozi, Amartya De, Kaelynne Hernandez, Miguel Mendoza, and Rex Morris. Observe invites viewers to delve into the intricate relationship between artwork and observer. How does the artist guide your gaze through their work? Inspired by Diego Velázquez’s ‘Las Meninas’ and Vivian Maier’s photography, this presentation for APRiL showcases artists working across mediums, offering a diverse perspective on the theme of observation, spanning paintings, photography, and motorized sculpture. In paintings, the subject’s gaze can be inviting, confrontational, or defiant. Through photography, captured moments transcend generations, inviting viewers to contemplate the passage of time. Meanwhile, a motorized dance of chain links distorts in a never-ending cycle, symbolizing the perpetual evolution of perception. Kulimushi’s paintings serve as a profound expression of personal history, embodying the fluidity of identity and perception. Amartya delves into the semiotic significance of photography, while Kaelynne employs figurative painting to confront generational trauma and articulate lived experiences. Miguel’s art, steeped in magical realism, celebrates the strength and diversity of individuals worldwide, reflecting his cultural heritage from Oaxaca, Mexico. Meanwhile, Rex explores memory and the nature of modern existence through captivating sound sculptures. Observe prompts viewers to reflect on their role as observers and contemplate the dynamic interplay between artist, artwork, and viewer.
