Details | October 1989. George H. W. Bush is in the White House, and Janet Jackson’s “Miss You Much” is the number one song on the radio. Look Who’s Talking has just hit the theaters, and you can buy a ticket for $3.99. The Oakland A’s are in the middle of sweeping the World Series against the San Francisco Giants. Wynwood Press has just taken a risk on printing 5,000 copies of A Time to Kill, a debut legal thriller by unknown author John Grisham. Everyone has a landline, and only 15% of U.S. households have a home computer. Those who don’t have a computer of their own will need to visit their local library to use one, and that is where you find yourself now. You are a guest at a dinner party celebrating the publication of a journal article written by the reclusive archivist, Laurence Perkins. When professional boss lady and library director Beatrice Newman planned the party (or at least, when she told her overworked assistant, Diane Yardley, to plan it) she envisioned a massive event that would draw new donors to the library. The library has been on shaky ground ever since Brad Lancaster, the previous bookkeeper, left for a job on the other side of the state, but that hasn’t lessened the high-priced demands of Yvonne Atkins, the brilliant and ambitious computer programmer looking to bring the library into the future. Beatrice wants the library staff to present a united front to potential stakeholders, so attendance at the event is mandatory, even for the eccentric and surprisingly hot-tempered children’s librarian, Jim Gardner-Nelson. The event is sure to be a wild success… as long as someone can stop the staff from killing each other. Join us on Friday, October 18th at Derby Neck Library for a fully immersive murder mystery dinner theater event. Attendees will enjoy a catered dinner and dessert in the Community Room while taking in a short film by the DNL Film Production Club. After dinner, it’s up to you to figure out whodunnit. Search the library for clues, decipher puzzles and codes, and talk to the characters, live and in person. There’s a killer on the loose in Derby Neck Library, and we need your help to solve the mystery! Tickets to this 18+ event must be purchased in advance. Doors will open at 5pm on Friday, October 18th, and will close to newcomers at 5:30pm, regardless of whether you have purchased a ticket. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their 1980s, business-casual best; we’re looking for a strong Murder, She Wrote energy. If you have any questions, please call the Derby Neck Library at 203 – 734-1492 and ask for Kate. |
