An Evening with Olympic Gold Medalist Alexis Holmes

Details Olympic track and field gold medalist Alexis Holmes, a native of Hamden, Conn., returns home with her medal from the Paris 2024 Olympics and sits down for a public conversation at Southern Connecticut State University’s Lyman Center on the evening of October 30, 2024. A hometown hero with SCSU track and field in her history, Holmes got her start running track with the New Haven Age Group Track Club, which was founded by James Barber, longtime head coach of the Southern women’s indoor and outdoor track teams. Barber coached Holmes’ mother, Dawn Stanton, 90, MS 97, when she was a NCAA Division II student athlete at Southern. Stanton was a four-time All-American as a member of the women’s indoor and outdoor track and field squads at Southern and is honored in the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
