Matt Axton and his band Badmoon bring their original mountain soul, country rock-n-roll to Cafe Nine for the first time on Sunday, September 21st as part of their “Beast Goes East” tour, 31 shows in 31 days in 16 states. Local band Bad Boys and East Coast native Bar Jay Bar will open the Sunday funday starting at 6pm. Matt’s musical legacy began with his grandmother Mae Boren Axton co-wrote Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” and continued with his father Hoyt Axton who wrote hits, most notably “Joy to the World — Jeremiah was a Bullfrog” (Three Dog Night), “The Pusher” (Steppenwolf) and his own chart-topper “Boney Fingers.” Like his grandmother and father, Matt’s music spans genres from folk, rock and country to roots, funk and blues while his signature finger picking guitar style and smooth, rich, baritone voice are all his own. New Haven-ites will get a sneak peak at Matt Axton’s upcoming release “Musclechops,” a groovier, funky side of Axton’s Americana while jamming to recent releases “Same Old Story, ”a Gothic country-rock powerhouse and “Crazy City,” an atmospheric Americana blues-rock anthem, and more from Axton’s original catalog of modern Americana. And, as always, Matt honors his family legacy at every show sharing their music and stories.
