De Sica’s Oscar-winning adaptation of Giorgio Bassani’s semi-autobiographical novel is an achingly beautiful cautionary tale about the blindness of privilege” (Sean Burns) and a masterpiece of 20th-century cinema” (Tullio Kezich).
