| Details | DISTRICT 9 (Neill Blomkamp, 2009, 35mm, 112 mins) This sci-fi political parable of refugees and state repression stars Sharlto Copley as a South African functionary who learns empathy (and a few fighting moves) after mutations make him a fugitive. Part eco-critique, part mockumentary, the sleeper hit earned four Oscar nominations and won praise for being “a brashly confident debut” (Tom Charity) that’s “audacious, original, and absolutely gut-wrenching” (Anupama Chopra). Introduction by Thuthuka Sibisi. 35mm print from the Yale Film Archive. The “Treasures from the Yale Film Archive” series is presented with support from Paul L. Joskow ‘70 M.Phil., ‘72 Ph.D. |
