What to Expect This is a hands-on workshop focused on the basics of weaving with reed and introducing the foundational techniques of basket making. The class format allows you to interact directly with the material, with opportunities to explore the sculptural potential of reed by shaping and manipulating it into unique three-dimensional forms. By the end of class, you will have a completed woven object to take home for future reference. Skills You’ll Acquire Material Preparation: Learning how to properly temper and handle reed to make it pliable for weaving. Basketry Foundations: Understanding the basic structural patterns and tension required to start and secure a weave. Sculptural Shaping: Developing techniques to manipulate flat woven structures into dimensional, fluid forms. Texture and Craftsmanship: Combining varied weaving rhythms to alter the surface texture and structural integrity of the object.
