Bedward’s new documentary digs beneath the pop-culture clichés to uncover a far older and more complicated story, one rooted in colonialism, enslavement, spirituality, and survival. With clips from WHITE ZOMBIE to THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW and beyond, BLACK ZOMBIE peels away decades of cinematic mythology to map the zombie’s Caribbean origins and make the case for a cultural reckoning . “You’ll never see a zombie the same way again” (Jessi Cape). BLACK ZOMBIE will be preceded at 7 p.m. by a 35mm screening of Jacques Tourneur’s I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE!
