Sew a Gift Bag

Sun Nov 22 , 1 – 3 pm

Hosted by MakeHaven
Details Skip the disposable wrapping paper and flimsy gift bags! In this practical workshop, you will learn how to stitch a sturdy cloth shopping bag that doubles as reusable holiday gift wrap and a reliable everyday tote.
What to Expect:
These bags are built to last. With two layers of fabric and reinforced seams, they can easily handle heavy groceries, library books, or craft supplies. Best of all, once you learn the step by step assembly technique, you can quickly whip up a whole stack at home for everyone on your gift list.
Expect a relaxed, hands on session where you walk through every step from raw fabric to final assembly. You will get comfortable setting up your material, guiding straight lines through a sewing machine, and putting your tote together. You will walk out with a completed, functional bag in hand and the know how to replicate the project at home.
What You Will Learn:
Straight stitch control and seam allowance guidance on a sewing machine
Aligning and pinning two layers of fabric for clean interior seams
Sewing reinforced seams for extra strength and carrying capacity
Constructing and securing sturdy handles
Assembling a complete lined bag from start to finish
Skill Level and Prerequisites:
Beginner friendly. No prior experience is required. We will only be sewing in straight lines along fabric edges, making this an ideal project for newcomers. Prior knowledge of how to use a sewing machine is helpful, but our instructor will guide you through machine operation.
Tools and Materials:
Sewing machines, irons, fabric shears, thread, and fabric will be provided.
What to Bring:
All necessary fabric and notions to complete one bag are included in the ticket.
If you have a specific prewashed cotton or canvas print you prefer to use, you are welcome to bring your own yardage.
Safety Requirements:
Closed toe shoes are required at MakeHaven. Long hair must be tied back, and loose jewelry or flowing sleeves should be secured while operating machinery.
