Details | The Albert Rivera Quintet is a unique group consisting of a modern jazz sound which takes influences from varies eras including the Hard Bop era and combining it with Funk, Soul and Modern Jazz. Know as the “Electric” band, it includes both Electric Guitar and both Acoustic Piano and Electric keyboards, Albert and his ensemble perform both originals (Albert was a previous recipient of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award), and modern takes on jazz classics. Described by WNPR’s Owen McNally as “A Modern Jazz Messenger” Bronx born and raised saxophonist Albert Rivera has been a consistent force on a national and international level since finalizing his studies at The New School almost two decades ago. Downbeat magazine called Albert and his band “part of the next wave in this jazz ritual.” Albert is a recipient of a Chamber Music America Residency award (2012) and a ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award (2009). He is the current Director of Operations at the Litchfield Jazz Camp His love, passion and dedication for music has put him on stage with the who’s who in the industry including shows with Claudio Roditi, Matt Wilson, Paul Bollenbeck, The Curtis Brothers, Gerald Veasely, and many others. He was fortunate to join one of the last versions of legendary pianist, Junior Mance and his quintet before Junior’s eventual retirement. His latest project and newest focus, the Albert Rivera’s Electric Quintet features a fun, high energy ensemble, reworking classic standards and originals, and at times tipping his hat to saxophone greats like Grover Washington and Maceo Parker. He is endorsed by Vandoren Mouthpieces, Ligatures and Reeds. Albert performs exclusively on RS Berkeley Saxophones. |
