Details | Drawing from the musical worlds of Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, and Charles Mingus, the Avram Fefer Trio forges a highly original sound, incorporating cross-cultural compositional and improvisational techniques within a modern jazz context. Spiritual uplift, introspection, and communal connection are at the heart of everything they play, resulting in a concert experience closely resembling a Jazz Revival Meeting. Avram Fefer is a New York-based composer, improviser, bandleader and player of multiple woodwinds. He has appeared on thirteen CD’s as a leader, many more as a sideman, and has performed in clubs and festivals throughout Europe, Japan, Africa, and the Middle East. Over the years, he has performed alongside legends Archie Shepp, Tony Allen, Bobby Few, the Last Poets, and the David Murray Big Band, while his own bands have included jazz stalwarts Eric Revis, Michael Bisio, Chad Taylor, Steve Swell, Reggie Nicholson, Roy Campbell, Kenny Wessel, and Wilber Morris, among many others. His latest album — Testament — featuring his Quartet with guitarist Marc Ribot, has been listed as an Album of the Year by Rolling Stone, NPR, Downbeat, Bandcamp, Cadence, and Jazz Magazine. |
