Details | Sleep is a universal human experience. We spend at least a third of our lives asleep, and our brains are just as active when sleeping as waking. Yet sleep remains a mysterious phenomenon — its deepest functions and purposes still largely unexplained. Drawing from the Center’s extensive collection and working with specialists in sleep medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, this focused exhibition considers how sleep is represented in art, its role in human behavior, and the ethical dimensions of this fundamental but confounding aspect of life. Credits “Sleep” is curated by Courtney Skipton Long, Acting Assistant Curator, Prints and Drawings, in collaboration with Matthew Hargraves, Chief Curator of Art Collections; Lauren Tobias, Assistant Professor, Yale School of Medicine; and Meir Kryger, Professor of Medicine, Yale School of Medicine. |
