Details | Why has concern for the lives of Afghanis gone from practically none to alarming during the recent exit of United States military forces from their country? The history of Afghanistan did not start this year or even in the 1970s. After World War II the United States fit Afghanistan into its prosecution of the Cold War in west Asia. How was U.S. policy towards Afghanistan affected by the fact that its northern neighbor was the Soviet Union? How did the U.S. respond to major political changes in Afghanistan and its neighbors, especially Iran, Pakistan and China? Dr. Azad presents and clarifies this history as well as describing who the players were in the wars on Afghanistan, who were winners or losers, and who in the United States benefited from U.S. policy. |
