Into the Throne of the Mountain Gods

Tue Jul 11 , 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Hosted by Seymour Library
Details Dr. Richard Benfield, former chair of the CCSU Geography Department, will give a talk on his work as a snow leopard researcher in the Himalayas.
The Himalayan snow leopard is the most mysterious, most enigmatic and most poorly understood of all of all large cats. Inhabiting mountain terrain above 15,000 feet the snow leopard is rarely seen and rarely photographed. Only three individuals in the world today study the cat full time. As a result, conservation agencies, Panthera and The Snow Leopard Trust amongst them, rely on citizen scientists to do basic research to add to the body of knowledge on this elusive cat.
Join us as we view a series of trips into the Himalayas and the mountains of Central Asia –most recently to the Everest base camp in search of this elusive big cat that has become the focus of Dr. Richard Benfield’s life. For more information on the snow leopard see Panthera.org or Snowleopard.org.
This is an in person event and no registration is needed to attend the talk. For more information on this event please contact sgarvey@biblio.org.
