Hudson River Painters: An Artistic Landscape Fraternity

Wed Sep 18 , 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Hosted by Seymour Public Library
Details The Seymour Public Library welcomes back the historian John Cilio. Mr. Cilio will have a talk on America’s first native school of painting– the Hudson River School.
The Hudson River School dating back to the 1820s, was America’s first true artistic fraternity. This group of painters focused on capturing the unique natural beauty of the American continent.

The paintings of the Hudson River school reflected a sense of hopefulness and a deep appreciation for the untouched American landscape. As time passed, their artwork also began to convey a sense of sorrow for the changing landscape. Join John Cilio for a presentation the delves into the lives, locations and symbolism of these painters.
