| Details | April is National Poetry Month and Derby Neck will be hosting a series of workshops for all ages! Join us on Thursday April 9th, 16th, and 23rd at 4:30pm and learn all about haiku, blackout and found poetry, and shape and acrostic poetry. Krissy will be leading the adults and teens in the Community Room while Brendan works with the kids in the Children’s Room. Once you’ve written your poems, we’ll all get together to celebrate our successes with an open mic session on Saturday, April 25th, MCed by the New Haven Youth Poet Laureate, Anna Capelle! You do not need to take part in the workshop series to attend/perform at the open mic. April 23rd: An acrostic poem uses the letters of a word to start each line of a poem describing the original word. A shape poem uses words and negative space to create a shape reminiscent of the poem’s subject. This poetry form will be especially enjoyed by those of us who are more into visual arts than literature. |
