Derby Neck Library - Poetry Lab: Found and Blackout Poems

Thu Apr 16 , 4:30 – 5:30 pm

Hosted by Derby Neck Library
Details April is National Poetry Month and Derby Neck will be hosting a series of workshops for all ages! Join us on Thursday April 9th, 16th, and 23rd at 4:30pm and learn all about haiku, blackout and found poetry, and shape and acrostic poetry. Krissy will be leading the adults and teens in the Community Room while Brendan works with the kids in the Children’s Room. Once you’ve written your poems, we’ll all get together to celebrate our successes with an open mic session on Saturday, April 25th, MCed by the New Haven Youth Poet Laureate, Anna Capelle! You do not need to take part in the workshop series to attend/perform at the open mic.

April 16th
Dive into a modern form of poetry with Found and Blackout poetry. In this workshop, you will choose a piece of writing from a magazine, newspaper, or book and make an entirely new poem by removing or selecting specific words or phrases. A great workshop for anyone looking to try something a little different!
